Answers to common questions

We’d love to work with you!
Here is some information you may be wondering about when looking to get in at Zoltar.

Where are you located? What are your hours?

Located at 515 8th St S in Moorhead, MN.  It’s a beautiful old two story house.  Red Buffalo Barbershop is located on the first floor.  Zoltar is located on the second floor.  Please come up the front staircase.  We do have a small parking lot on the backside of the house.

Open Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm.

How do I book an appointment?

  • Message us on Facebook

  • Each artist has their own email.  justin@zoltartattoo.com, kellie@zoltartattoo.com, adam@zoltartattoo.com.   Please be patient when inquiring through email.  Each artist controls their schedule and sometimes its difficult to balance art and emails.

  • Call the shop to leave a message (218-512-0532).  We do have a landline, but at present we do not have a full time front desk person.  If all artists are busy for the day, they may not answer all calls.  Please leave a message and we’ll get back to you, or message our facebook page.

What information should I include when contacting?

When emailing artists about getting a piece from them, any and all information helps.  Please include your name and number to be reached.  Please include the location of your tattoo and size. Please be specific about sizing; small, medium, or large are not good indicators as people come in different shapes and sizes. An artist may ask for a photograph of the area to be tattooed.  This will help your artist properly quote you for your tattoo. Include whether you would like color or black and gray, or if you have a specific style in mind.  Any kind of reference, sketch, or scribble can help them create what you are envisioning.  It’s also not a bad idea to include what days may work for your appointment to assist with booking.  Artists may ask to set up an in person consultation as its easier to discuss details.  If you’re from out of town or unable to set up a consultation, the artists will gladly consult over email.

What are your rates?

Each artist has their own approach to charging. When emailing/consulting, the artist will discuss his or her rates.

How are deposits handled?

All artists require a deposit to book an appointment.  This deposit serves to lock in your appointment and protect against No Shows. Your deposit goes towards the cost of your tattoo.  If you need to reschedule your appointment, please give the artist 48 hrs notice so that they may fill the opening.  Failure to notify your artist results in losing your deposit and new one must be made to book back in.  All deposits are FINAL.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Tattoos are trauma to the body.  It is a good idea to get a good nights rest, have a good meal before hand, and drink lots of water in preparation for your tattoo.  Drinking excessively the night before your appointment is not a good idea as it can thin your blood and make it more difficult for the artist to work on you.

What are best aftercare practices?

After your bandage comes off, wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day and moisturize 3-5 times a day.  We recommend washing with a non scented mild soap such as Dial Gold.  To moisturize, we recommend Hustle Butter and sell it at the shop.  Other options include nonscented white based lotions such as Lubriderm, Cetaphil, Curel, or Jergens.  Allow your tattoo to breathe for a few minutes after washing, before applying your moisturizer.  Itchiness is common during the healing process; it is crucial to not scratch, itch, or pick your tattoos.  Average healing time is 2-3 weeks.  No swimming, hot tubs,  or saunas during the healing time as it may cause infection.  Sunscreen once your tattoos are healed is an important part of keeping your tattoos looking bold and fresh.

Do you do piercings?

Not at this time.  Possibly in the future.
